Sunday Update complete

Week 9 - Bye Weeks - CLE, NYJ, PHI, TB.

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the fantasy football rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Should I start Patrick Mahomes or Bryce Young?"

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Each week after Week 1, the first set of rankings will be posted late on Tuesday night. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning.

When setting your lineups, make sure to refer to the NFL inactives to ensure all of your players are set

Quarterbacks

1.Patrick Mahomes KC at BUF
2.Josh Allen BUF vs. KC
3.Dak Prescott DAL vs. ARI
4.*Lamar Jackson BAL at MIA
Note: Jackson was a full participant - and a real 'full participant' this time - in practice on Tuesday and is on track to start Thursday night in Miami. Jackson has been cleared to return this week.
5.Drake Maye NE vs. ATL
6.Caleb Williams CHI at CIN
7.Daniel Jones IND at PIT
8.Justin Herbert LAC at TEN
9.Matthew Stafford LA vs. NO
10.Jared Goff DET vs. MIN
11.*Jordan Love GB vs. CAR
Note: In a game where Love was brilliant, at one point connecting on 20 consecutive passes, he still left a couple of plays on the table. He gets a nice home matchup against the Panthers this week.
12.*Jayden Daniels WAS vs. SEA
Note: Daniels (hamstring) had a good rehab session Tuesday and will participate in Wednesday's practice. The Commanders play another stand-alone game on Sunday night against Seattle. Daniels fully practiced Wednesday and is scheduled for a full week of practice. I'm going to treat him as if he's starting. ***Daniels has been named the starter this week.***
13.Jaxson Dart NYG vs. SF
14.Trevor Lawrence JAC at LV
15.Sam Darnold SEA at WAS
16.*Jacoby Brissett ARZ at DAL
Note: The Cardinals have not yet announced whether Brissett or Kyler Murray (foot) will start. ***Brissett has officially been named the starter.***
17.*Joe Flacco CIN vs. CHI
Note: Flacco is day-to-day with a shoulder issue; he briefly had it checked out in the locker room while the Jets were on their go-ahead drive. Flacco missed practice Wednesday and was limited in Thursday's practice. ***Flacco's practice Thursday was enough to convince him and the Bengals that he'll be ready to play, despite resting on Friday. He's officially a game-time decision.***
18.*Bo Nix DEN at HOU
Note: Nix indeed got well against the threadbare Cowboys secondary, after throwing a terrible INT in the first quarter. It'll be a lot tougher this week on the road at Houston.
19.*Mac Jones SF at NYG
Note: Jones suffered a bruised knee in the loss to the Texans and is day-to-day. Jones fully practiced Wednesday. ***Jones will get another start this week against the Giants.***
20.*Aaron Rodgers PIT vs. IND
Note: ***Rodgers appeared to injure his handle/finger in pregame warmups.***
21.*Michael Penix ATL at NE
Note: Penix (knee) was described as day-to-day on Monday by coach Raheem Morris following the Falcons' loss to Miami. Penix has been limited in practice the first two days, but also said that he's 'trending in the right direction' towards playing. ***Penix has been cleared from the injury list and will start against the Pats.***
22.Geno Smith LV vs. JAX
23.Cam Ward TEN vs. LAC
24.*Tua Tagovailoa MIA vs. BAL
Note: Apparently all that Tua needed was an illness that also affected his vision to have his best game of the year.
25.C.J. Stroud HOU vs. DEN
26.*Bryce Young CAR at GB
Note: Young (ankle) had an encouraging running session Monday and the team is hopeful he might be able to practice Wednesday. Teammate Andy Dalton was overwhelmed by the Bills' pass rush in Week 8. Young fully practiced Wednesday and was taken off of the injury list. ***Young has been cleared to start this week against the Packers.***
27.*J.J. McCarthy MIN at DET
Note: McCarthy (ankle) will have a full week of prep this week before likely starting on Sunday against the Vikings. Max Brosmer would be the backup. McCarthy fully practiced Wednesday.
28.*Tyler Shough NO at LAR
Note: Shough will start this week after replacing Spencer Rattler in the second half last week. Shough will be the starter for the rest of the season.
29.*Jake Browning CIN vs. CHI
Note: ***It appears that Joe Flacco (shoulder) will be able to play, but if you have the roster spot, it's not the worst idea to roster Browning if you also have Flacco just in case.***
30.*Kyler Murray ARZ at DAL
Note: Murray (foot) was on the field for Tuesday's bonus practice session, and is 'doing better' than he was during the two weeks where he missed games before the bye. The Cardinals haven't yet announced who is starting between Murray and Jacoby Brissett. Murray was officially limited in practice Thursday. While coach Jonathan Gannon said that the team is preparing Murray to start, Murray threw to the team's backup receivers while Jacoby Brissett was throwing to the starters. ***Murray was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable. The Cardinals have already named Brissett as the starter over Murray.***
31.*Kirk Cousins ATL at NE
Note: Cousins turned in a woeful performance against the Dolphins, albeit one with a hand tied behind his back with Drake London missing. ***Michael Penix will start this week.***
32.Marcus Mariota WAS vs. SEA
33.*Brock Purdy SF at NYG
Note: There's a chance that Purdy (toe) could return this week, though coach Kyle Shanahan said that it's too early to commit one way or another. Purdy (toe) was limited in Thursday's practice, whereas Mac Jones (knee) was able to fully practice. ***Jones will start. Purdy is listed as questionable, but if he's active he'll just be the backup.***
34.*Andy Dalton CAR at GB
Note: Both Dalton and Kirk Cousins looked overwhelmed in situations where the consensus was that they weren't that far off from the starter on their respective teams. Dalton suffered a broken thumb in the loss to the Bills, but he was still able to put in a limited practice Thursday.
35.Tyler Huntley BAL at MIA
36.*Spencer Rattler NO at LAR
Note: Rattler has been benched in favor of Tyler Shough. Rattler will be the No. 2 quarterback.
37.*Carson Wentz MIN at DET
Note: Wentz is out for the season due to a left shoulder injury that requires surgery, one that he has been playing on since the London game.
38.Jalen Hurts PHI at
39.Baker Mayfield TB at
40.Dillon Gabriel CLE at
41.Justin Fields NYJ at

Running Backs

4.De'Von Achane MIA vs. BAL
5.Jahmyr Gibbs DET vs. MIN
6.James Cook BUF vs. KC
7.Kyren Williams LA vs. NO
8.*Josh Jacobs GB vs. CAR
Note: Jacobs (calf) has been limited the first two days of the week. ***Jacobs has been cleared from the injury list.***
9.Derrick Henry BAL at MIA
10.Javonte Williams DAL vs. ARI
11.*Rico Dowdle CAR at GB
Note: Dowdle is expected to carry a heavier burden over Chuba Hubbard going forward. I don't love his matchup this week, however.
12.J.K. Dobbins DEN at HOU
13.Chase Brown CIN vs. CHI
14.Travis Etienne JAC at LV
15.Jaylen Warren PIT vs. IND
16.Ashton Jeanty LV vs. JAX
17.*Kyle Monangai CHI at CIN
Note: ***Teammate D'Andre Swift has been ruled out, meaning that Monangai will get the start in a great matchup against the Bengals.***
18.Kimani Vidal LAC at TEN
19.*Kareem Hunt KC at BUF
Note: Hunt could have a heavier workload in the near future due to Pacheco's MCL sprain. ***Pacheco is officially out this week.***
20.Zach Charbonnet SEA at WAS
21.Kenneth Walker SEA at WAS
22.*TreVeyon Henderson NE vs. ATL
Note: Henderson had a season-high 75 yards, but also lost a fumble in the red zone. ***Getting the start with Rhamondre Stevenson (toe) ruled out.***
23.*Tyrone Tracy NYG vs. SF
Note: Back in the starter's role with Cam Skattebo (ankle) out for the season.
24.*Alvin Kamara NO at LAR
Note: Kamara (ankle) has been limited the first two days of practice this week. ***Kamara was limited in practice all three days this week and is listed as questionable, but expected to play.***
25.*Bam Knight ARZ at DAL
Note: ***Knight will 'be the first one out there' for the Cardinals on Monday night.***
26.*Aaron Jones MIN at DET
Note: Jones played more snaps than Mason on Thursday night, though both were marginalized by the game flow.
27.Jacory Croskey-Merritt WAS vs. SEA
28.*Chuba Hubbard CAR at GB
Note: Hubbard is expected to have fewer snaps and touches going forward, following coach Dave Canales's comments on Monday.
29.*Tony Pollard TEN vs. LAC
Note: Pollard (neck) was limited Wednesday but fully practiced Thursday.
30.David Montgomery DET vs. MIN
31.*Emanuel Wilson GB vs. CAR
Note: Wilson could get extra reps again this week - he was very effective in the second half last week and Josh Jacobs (quad) has been limited in practice.
32.*Woody Marks HOU vs. DEN
Note: Marks was added to the injury report Thursday with a calf injury and was limited. ***Marks was cleared from the injury list.***
33.Jordan Mason MIN at DET
34.RJ Harvey DEN at HOU
35.Tyjae Spears TEN vs. LAC
36.*Samaje Perine CIN vs. CHI
Note: For the second week in a row the Bengals ran the ball well, and Perine played a bigger role this week, running for 94 yards and a touchdown.
37.*Tyler Allgeier ATL at NE
Note: Allgeier (knee) was limited at Thursday's practice. ***Allgeier was cleared from the injury list on Friday.***
38.Nick Chubb HOU vs. DEN
39.*Brashard Smith KC at BUF
Note: Smith only had three official carries on Monday night, with another good run called back due to a holding penalty. He'll be busier this week against the Bills presumably, due to Pacheco's MCL sprain. ***Pacheco is confirmed out this week.***
40.*Ollie Gordon MIA vs. BAL
Note: Will the Dolphins' commitment to the run continue even against teams that can score against them? If so, then Gordon will have some enduring value. ***Gordon suffered an ankle injury in the loss on Thursday night.***
41.Bhayshul Tuten JAC at LV
42.*Ray Davis BUF vs. KC
Note: Davis (illness) sat out Wednesday but returned to a full practice Thursday. ***Davis has been cleared from the injury list.***
43.Kenneth Gainwell PIT vs. IND
44.*Devin Neal NO at LAR
Note: Neal didn't have any carries in the loss to the Bucs, but did play 46 percent of the offensive snaps. Unfortunately, the Saints could be in 'abandon-the-run' mode most weeks. Neal (ankle) has been limited in practice the first two days this week. ***Neal has been cleared from the injury list. Teammate Alvin Kamara is questionable, but expected to play.***
45.Justice Hill BAL at MIA
46.Jeremy McNichols WAS vs. SEA
47.Blake Corum LA vs. NO
48.Chris Brooks GB vs. CAR
49.*Devin Singletary NYG vs. SF
Note: Singletary might have a bigger role going forward now that Cam Skattebo is out for the season.
50.Brian Robinson SF at NYG
51.Trevor Etienne CAR at GB
52.Ty Johnson BUF vs. KC
53.*Travis Homer CHI at CIN
Note: ***Homer will be the backup to Kyle Monangai, with D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson both out.***
54.*Terrell Jennings NE vs. ATL
Note: ***Jennings could get more work than usual this week with Rhamondre Stevenson (toe) ruled out.***
55.*Michael Carter ARZ at DAL
Note: Carter was released and then re-signed to the practice squad.
56.Chris Rodriguez WAS vs. SEA
57.*Keaton Mitchell BAL at MIA
Note: It appears that Mitchell has surpassed Justice Hill in the Ravens' pecking order, at least when they're playing with a lead.
58.*Jaydon Blue DAL vs. ARI
Note: Blue fumbled last week and also struggled with blitz pickup.
59.LeQuint Allen JAC at LV
60.Jaret Patterson LAC at TEN
61.Zavier Scott MIN at DET
62.*Emari Demercado ARZ at DAL
Note: ***Demercado (ankle) has been removed from the injury list.***
