2024 Fantasy Outlook
Scheffler's earnings north of $21 million in the 2022-23 season set a PGA Tour record, bolstered by early-season wins at the Phoenix Open and Players Championship, as well as 13 top-five finishes in 23 starts. At 27, he displayed one of the most impressive ball-striking seasons on record, though his putting often left him just short of victories over the summer. A similar pattern emerged in the 2021-22 season, with four early wins followed by several near misses. While it might be unrealistic to expect Scheffler to exceed $20 million in earnings again, his current consistency is unparalleled. He should be the top pick in any fantasy format, even without certainty about his performance on the greens. Read Past Outlooks
LMPD investigation ongoing
May 21, 2024
Scheffler's incident early last Friday morning at Valhalla is still being investigated by the Louisville Police Department, John Schwarb of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
There were reports that the charges against Scheffler would be dropped, one of which was a felony charge for second degree assault of a police officer. It nearly caused Scheffler to miss his second-round tee time, but he returned to the course and was able to finish off the week with a solid T8. Scheffler's arraignment was initially scheduled to be this Tuesday, but it was pushed back to June 3. There is limited evidence available since the officer's bodycam video was not turned on, but all signs point to this being just a big misunderstanding in a chaotic situation after a security guard was hit by a bus and killed just an hour before the Scheffler incident. Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel hoped to have a new update on Thursday in regards to this situation. As for now Scheffler will look to get back in the win column at one of his hometown events, the Charles Schwab Classic at Colonial.

Scheffler had a season golf fans should remember for a long time. He picked up his long-awaited first victory in a playoff at the Phoenix Open and followed with wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC-Match Play, and capped it off with a win at the Masters. Scheffler would surprisingly not find the winner's circle again the rest of the season, but did notch runner-up's at Colonial, the U.S. open, and the Tour Championship. The 26-year-old made north of $14 million last season, which was a PGA Tour record. While that would be a big ask to repeat, Scheffler has the game and mental makeup to be a really good player for over a decade.
Scheffler's upside is one of the great unknowns heading into this season. He appears to have an upside similar to an elite player, but he's only two years into his PGA Tour career, which makes it hard to determine at this point. He also has yet to win on the PGA Tour, yet he posted more than $4.5 million in 2020-21. Imagine what he's capable of if he starts winning. Scheffler may be already peaking, it's tough to tell, but it looks like he can take his game higher. As such, he makes for an interesting salary cap option this season.
What a rookie season for the former Texas Longhorn. He notched double-digit top-25s and secured a spot at the Tour Championship. After a mid-season lull, he turned it on down the stretch and could have won multiple times. Scheffler's ball striking provides reason for optimism, ranking eighth in SG: Off-the-tee and 17th in SG: Tee-to-green for the season. He also was top-15 in birdie average and scoring average. Scheffler's short game should continue to get better going forward.
Prior to nabbing a victory at the first leg of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals in mid-August, Scheffler had already secured his PGA Tour card for the upcoming season by winning the Evans Scholars Invitational as the cherry on top of a stretch on the KFT that included results of 2-5-T7-2-Win beginning with late March's Savannah Golf Championship. He'll enjoy rookie status on the PGA Tour throughout the 2019-20 campaign, but the former Longhorn standout already has major tournament experience, having teed it up at three U.S. Opens as he earned Low Amateur honors at the 2017 edition. Scheffler missed the cut at the 2019 U.S. Open, but he notched a top-20 finish at the Valero Texas Open and collected nearly $150k despite making only four starts at the PGA Tour level. On the KFT, he ranked fifth in GIR percentage, 10th in putting average and led his peers in birdie average.
