Finished in first UFC main event

Nascimento lost to Derrick Lewis via TKO (punches) at 0:49 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Nascimento deserves credit for eating a handful of power strikes from Lewis that would have fallen any mere mortal, but the truth of the matter is that he was unable to generate virtually any offense this entire fight. Sure, he found himself in a dominant position on the mat on multiple occasions, but Nascimento appeared too tired to generate any real damage with his positional advantage. He was eventually dropped with a massive haymaker early in Round 3 before a few follow-up strikes resulted in referee Jason Herzog stepping in. Rodrigo began his UFC run with a 4-1-1 record in his first half-dozen fights with the company, but as he found out here, facing Lewis is an entirely different animal than going up against the likes of Don'Tale Mayes, Tanner Boser or Ilir Latifi.

Next bout scheduled
HeavyweightUFC
March 30, 2024
Nascimento will face off against Derrick Lewis at UFCSTL on May 11, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Nascimento will match up with Derrick Lewis in May after taking down Don'Tale Mayes a second time in November. The 31-year-old Brazilian fighter is 4-1-1 during his time with the UFC, and he will look to knock off a UFC legend in his next fight.
Again bests Don'Tale Mayes
HeavyweightUFC
November 4, 2023
Nascimento defeated Don'Tale Mayes via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Fresh of back-to-back split decision wins over Ilir Latifi and Tanner Boser, Nascimento clearly deserved to win this fight. That said, it was far from a flawless performance, He was the better man for ten minutes before fading significantly in Round 3. Rodrigo is a big guy that has to cut weight to make the 266-pound heavyweight limit, so there's always a strong likelihood he will struggle with cardio and becomes less effective as a fight progresses. Nothing in Nascimento's portfolio suggests he is any sort of contender, but his 4-1 (1NC) record in his first half dozen UFC bouts is quite strong.
Scheduled to rematch Mayes
HeavyweightUFC
August 7, 2023
Nascimento will fight Don'Tale Mayes in a heavyweight bout at UFC Sao Paulo on Nov. 4, according to Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Nascimento defeated Mayes during their first fight in 2020. But since then, the Brazilian has gone 2-1 (1) with each of his wins being via split decision. Mayes has been a little more impressive, having gone 3-1 (1) with two TKO wins. However, Nascimento will have the hometown advantage to log a definitive victory, as his next fight is in his native Brazil.
Another split decision win
HeavyweightUFC
May 20, 2023
Nascimento defeated Ilir Latifi via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a second straight split decision win for Nascimento, albeit the second straight that he clearly deserved to win. Rodrigo did exactly what he was supposed to do in this fight, using his massive size edge to his advantage by standing at distance and beating Latifi up on the feet. Although Nascimento did allow a takedown in each of the final two rounds, he actually defended fairly well on the mat and didn't allow Latifi to gain total control of the fight. The 30-year-old Brazilian now sports a 3-1 (1NC) mark in his first five UFC bouts.
Booked to fight in May
HeavyweightUFC
March 10, 2023
Nascimento is set to fight Ilir Latifi at a UFC event on May 20, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Nascimento will return to the octagon for the first time since September when he defeated Tanner Boser via split decision. Nascimento has an advantage in both height and reach but Latifi has more experience as a fighter in the UFC. Both will look to build off their respective wins when they meet in the octagon in just over two months' time.
