Hopkins made his MLB debut in 2023 and looked overmatched (38.6 K%) against MLB pitching across two stints. He hit a ton at Triple-A Louisville, slashing .308/.411/.514 with 16 home runs, but it wasn't enough to hold a spot on the 40-man roster. Hopkins was designated for assignment and eventually traded to the Giants ahead of his age-27 season. The Reds could have used Hopkins' right-handed bat in a lefty-heavy outfield, but he was not going to be more than a fringe player. Double-A Erie placed Hopkins on its full-season injured list May 16 after he underwent surgery earlier this week to repair the labrum in his right shoulder, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hopkins slashed .190/.326/.329 with four RBI and two home runs for Erie before injuring his shoulder in early May. The 27-year-old outfielder, who made his big-league debut in 2023 with the Reds, will look to get healthy in time for spring training in 2025.
