2024 Fantasy Outlook
Julien finished seventh in the AL rookie of the year voting as he looks like a potential star for the Twins. Julien offers a mix of exceptional plate discipline and power. He had a .381 OBP and drew walks at a near league-leading 15.7% clip. He also hit 16 home runs with a .195 ISO and was in the 86th percentile for Barrel Rate. His playing time was limited by platoon issues and his defense, however. He hit just .195 with a .447 OPS against left-handed pitching. He also struggled at times at second base (-3 defensive runs saved) and was blocked by Jorge Polanco (when healthy) which led him to be used frequently at DH and even 1B. The Twins should find a spot for him in the everyday lineup against right-handed pitching and should get more exposure to left-handed pitching as he develops. Read Past Outlooks
Starting again versus lefty
Julien will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game in Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Julien has now made two straight starts against left-handers and has been in the lineup for all but two games this season. It might not be the case if the Twins weren't missing Royce Lewis (quad) and/or Carlos Correa (intercostal), but for now Julien looks like an everyday player rather than a strong-side platoon option.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Chance to be shut down?
Brandon Warne of Access Twins believes the Twins should shut down Julien for the season due to his drop in production and nagging hamstring injury.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old rookie operated as Minnesota's primary second baseman for most of the summer but has played in the field just five times dating back to Aug. 22, which is shortly after he tweaked a hamstring. Julien has still regularly been in the lineup at designated hitter, but he has an underwhelming .192/.373/.346 slash line during that 19-game stretch. There's been no indication the Twins are considering shutting Julien down, but that could change if he continues to struggle down the stretch.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Julien generated a lot of dynasty-league buzz over the summer and fall of 2022, but he is a little divisive, as stat-based models love his combination of patience and above-average power, while traditional prospect rankings downgrade him. A 23-year-old lefty hitter from Quebec, Julien slashed .303/.443/.491 with a 24.6 K%, a 19.3 BB% and a strong 32.6 Hard% at Double-A. He then went to the Arizona Fall League and hit .400 with five home runs and more walks (23) than strikeouts (22) in 21 games. His lack of defensive utility means he has to kick the door down in order to get time at second base and designated hitter. Additionally, his below-average athleticism renders his 25 steals in 134 games between Double-A and the AFL nearly irrelevant. Julien will be more valuable in OBP leagues and his extreme patience will suppress his home run and RBI totals in the big leagues, but he still could earn a prime spot in a big-league lineup if he reaches his ceiling. The Twins have a lot of younger bat-first infield/DH types jockeying for playing time, but now that Julien is on the 40-man roster, he should get a chance sometime this summer.
