Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Johnathan Landus Motley was born in Houston, Texas in 1995. He attended North Shore High School in Houston, playing basketball under head coach David Green. In his junior year, he led his team to a 32-4 mark and a district championship. North Shore repeated as district champions the following season, going 30-5. Motley also played football in high school, spending time at quarterback, wide receiver and defensive end. In his off-time, he loves to cook and play video games. Motley is also a soccer fan; his favorite teams are Chelsea F.C. and Borussia Dortmund. Learn more about Motley by following him on Twitter (@Moneymot5). For the first season of his Baylor career, Motley was a role player. The 6-foot-8 forward started all 34 games as a freshman for the Bears, averaging 7.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 21.5 minutes. He split time in the frontcourt with Taurean Prince and Rico Gathers. He had some big games, including a 22-point, 11-rebound performance in a win over Texas A&M. Motley primarily came off the bench as a sophomore but improved his productivity to 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He had a pair of 27-point games in a sweep of Iowa State. Motley broke out as a junior and led the Bears with 17.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest. The forward led the team to a win over Texas with 32 points and 20 rebounds. The Bears advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and Motley averaged 17.3 points and 9.7 rebounds during The Big Dance. With one year of eligibility remaining, Motley declared for the 2017 NBA Draft but went undrafted. He signed a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks shortly afterwards.

Heads to Korea

Motley signed a contract with the Incheon Electroland Elephants of the Korean Basketball League earlier this month, Dario Skerletic of Sportando.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Motley is overseas for the first time in his career after spending time both at the G League and NBA level since going undrafted out of Baylor in 2017. Before getting the opportunity in Korea, Motley had attended training camp with the Suns in December, only to get cut loose before the start of the season. He'll look to impress in Korea with the hope of garnering renewed interest from NBA teams heading into 2021-22.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
For an undrafted free agent, Motley is seemingly a diamond in the rough set to thrive if given the opportunity. Unfortunately for the Baylor product, that chance isn't likely to come with the Clippers during the 2019-20 campaign, barring major injuries in front of him. Motley showed solid potential right from the start of his NBA career, as he averaged 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds across 16.0 minutes over 11 games with the Mavericks back in the 2017-18 season. Following a July 2018 trade to the Clippers, Motley spent 27 games (25 starts) with the G League's Ontario Agua Caliente last season and dominated at that level, averaging 24.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists across 34.2 minutes, shooting 55.3 percent overall, including 29.6 percent from distance. He also doubled up his number of games at the NBA level to 22 during the 2018-19 campaign and actually put up better per-36 numbers than in his rookie season despite averaging just under nine minutes fewer per contest. Motley returned to Los Angeles on a two-way deal this past July 24 after not being extended a qualifying offer in late June, and he's likely to spend a bulk of his time with Agua Caliente yet again barring unforeseen circumstances. Despite his ability to fill both frontcourt spots, Motley is looking up at a depth chart that runs at least four-deep ahead of him at each of those positions heading into training camp.
