Sees little action as backup
Rush completed 18 of 24 passes for 144 yards and an interception over seven regular-season games in 2023.
ANALYSIS
While the Cowboys' penchant for early-season blowouts gave Rush plenty of garbage-time opportunities, the 30-year-old quarterback didn't get a start as Dak Prescott stayed healthy all year. Rush is under contract for one more season at a modest $2.25 million, and while his familiarity with the offense should ensure he returns to Dallas in 2024, he could face a challenge for the No. 2 role from Trey Lance.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Returning to Cowboys in '23
Rush agreed to a two-year deal with the Cowboys on Friday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rush explored the market but opted to return on a deal that Archer reports is worth $5 million and includes a $1.25 million signing bonus. The capable backup to Dak Prescott reportedly received interest from at least two AFC teams, but the 29-year-old one-time undrafted free agent perhaps is best served by sticking with a coaching staff and general offensive scheme he's already familiar with.

2017
Another Dak Prescott injury landed Rush under center again in 2022, and the 29-year-old Central Michigan product won four straight starts before falling to the Eagles in Week 6. His efficiency took a step back, however, and those victories owed more to Dan Quinn's defense than Rush's arm. With coordinator Kellen Moore leaving to take over the Chargers offense, Rush's knowledge of Moore's scheme no longer is a plus, and he could face a stiff challenge for the No. 2 quarterback job in training camp from the more athletically gifted Will Grier, a third-round pick of the Panthers in 2019, and Trey Lance, for whom the Cowboys traded in late August.
