2024 Fantasy Outlook
There are two major question marks surrounding Hockenson heading into the 2024 season. The first is health, as Minnesota’s tight end is in danger of missing the early portion of his age-27 season after tearing the ACL in his right knee Dec. 26. Hockenson underwent surgery in late January, and even an optimistic nine-month recovery timetable wouldn’t have him ready until close to midseason. It will presumably take even longer to get back to his impressive pre-injury production, especially given the other cloud hanging over Hockenson’s fantasy forecast: Minnesota’s quarterback situation after Kirk Cousins (Achilles) signed with the Falcons. Hockenson excelled regardless of who was throwing him the ball in 2023. Despite missing the last two games after his Week 15 ACL tear, Hockenson finished second among tight ends in targets (127) and catches (95), as well as fourth in yards with 963. That production included 42 catches for 482 yards and two touchdowns in seven games after Cousins tore his Achilles tendon in Week 8. Hockenson averaged 59.8 receiving yards with Cousins and 68.9 in the remaining games, which were started by a mix of Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall. A healthy Hockenson has the skill set to excel regardless of who’s throwing him the ball, but we may not see that version of him at all in 2024 due to the ACL tear. Read Past Outlooks
Ahead of schedule in rehab
Hockenson (knee) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn right ACL and MCL, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Hockenson suffered his knee injury the day after Christmas. According to Lewis, even though Hockenson is making quick progress, the Vikings don't plan to rush him back, and the tight end's status for Week 1 remains in question. There's chance he opens the season on reserve/PUP. If so, veterans Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt are next up on the depth chart.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May not be ready to begin 2024
Hockenson could be sidelined for the start of the 2024 season after tearing his ACL and MCL in Minnesota's Week 16 loss to Detroit, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It was clear at the time that Hockenson had suffered a significant injury, though this was among the worst possible outcomes. Given that the injury occurred so late in the 2023 season, his status to begin 2024 will be in question. He'll miss all of OTAs while recovering from surgery and will also likely be sidelined for much, if not all, of training camp.

Hockenson finished second among tight ends in targets (129), receptions (86) and receiving yards (914) last year, setting a career high in each category. His role changed drastically after a midseason trade to Minnesota. The 2019 first-round pick had 26 catches for 395 yards and three TDs on 43 targets in seven games for the Lions last year, averaging 6.1 targets per game and scoring about half his fantasy points (8-179-2) in a Week 4 shootout loss to Seattle. Hockenson saw more passes in Minnesota but never had a gain of more than 21 yards, averaging 8.6 targets per game and only 6.0 YPT -- 60 catches for 519 yards and three TDs. Justin Jefferson and first-round pick Jordan Addison figure to be the primary read(s) on most of Minnesota's pass plays, but last season’s usage alongside Jefferson and Adam Thielen (now in Carolina) suggests there will be plenty of targets left over for Hockenson, who is 26 this season.
