Ja'Tavion Sanders

21-Year-Old Tight EndTE
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Many prognosticators viewed Sanders as the No. 2 tight end prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft behind only Brock Bowers, but NFL front offices apparently didn’t agree, taking Ben Sinnott in the second round (Washington) and Tip Reiman in the third (Arizona) before Sanders landed in Carolina with the first pick of the fourth round. The slide could be a blessing in disguise for the tight end out of Texas, as his top competition for snaps is now fourth-year pro Tommy Tremble, who had fewer than 200 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons. Sanders, meanwhile, exceeded 600 receiving yards in each of his last two college seasons while competing for targets with a slew of other NFL prospects. And while not quite a burner -- he ran a 4.69 40 at the combine -- he showcased big-play ability last year with 12 catches of 20-plus yards, second only to Bowers among FBS tight ends. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Sanders should instantly be the best receiving threat in Carolina's tight end room, though shortcomings in blocking and route running could curtail his playing time early on. The Panthers selected Sanders in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 101st overall.
ANALYSIS
Sanders was wildly considered to be one of the draft's top tight ends after Brock Bowers, so the Panthers have to be ecstatic to land the athletic pass catcher to kickstart Day 3. While Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas have carved out specific niches with the offense, neither posses the kind of game-breaking traits that Sanders displayed as a pass catcher at Texas (fourth most yards after the catch among FBS tight ends in 2023). It wouldn't be surprising at all to see the redshirt junior immediately become the team's de-facto starting tight end as a rookie, even if it means Sanders yields plenty of blocking reps to the likes of Tremble and Thomas in specific packages.

Big target for quarterback Young
TECarolina Panthers
May 11, 2024
Matt Bowen of ESPN.com believes that Sanders, who was taken by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, is a perfect fit and target for quarterback Bryce Young.
ANALYSIS
Bowen notes that Young averaged just 5.5 yards per attempt to tight ends last season, so bringing in the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Sanders will cause mismatches against defensive backs in the Panthers' passing game designed by head coach Dave Canales. Sanders was the fourth tight end taken in the 2024 NFL Draft behind Brock Bowers, Ben Sinnott and Tip Reiman. Sanders spent two seasons with Texas and accumulated 99 catches for 1,295 yards and seven touchdowns over that span.
