2024 Fantasy Outlook
Flacco signed a one-year deal in March with $4.5 million guaranteed to back up Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis. Flacco gives the Colts a veteran capable of keeping the team afloat should Richardson go down. That’s what he did last year in Cleveland, after joining the Browns in mid-November. By December, he was the starter and guided the Browns to the playoffs, earning Comeback Player of the Year honors. Flacco’s on-target rate was 67.6 percent -- 33rd of 35 QBs with at least 200 attempts -- partly because he went downfield at such a high rate -- 38.3 percent of attempts went at least 10 yards (2nd), 12.3 at least 20 yards (3rd). Flacco still has a strong arm, and at 39, he still has something left in the tank. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Inking with Indy
Flacco agreed to terms Wednesday with the Colts on a one-year contract worth up to $8.7 million, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Flacco's deal reportedly includes $4.5 million guaranteed. The reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year is coming off an impressive showing with Cleveland last season, and he's now slated to replace Gardner Minshew as the top backup to second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder). All expectations in Indianapolis are that Richardson will be ready for training camp and fully cleared well ahead of Week 1, but Flacco makes for a capable backup should he be required to take the field during the 2024 season. Even if Richardson maintains health all season, Flacco should at least make for a valuable mentor for the young signal-caller.

However, Flacco conceded Friday that he was somewhat surprised at the Browns not bringing him back after it was clear he was interested in playing another season, but Shook points out Flacco was simply a stopgap measure last season for Cleveland.

Flacco re-signed with the Jets during the offseason and enters camp as the favorite to beat out Mike White for the backup spot behind 2021 second overall pick Zach Wilson. The 37-year-old Flacco played well in limited action last year, coming nine yards short of 300 in his lone start of the season. Flacco could end up making the Week 1 start after Wilson injured his knee in the preseason opener.
