Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Haener appeared in the first eight games of his career last season, completing 18 of 39 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The 2023 fourth-rounder spent most of the season competing against rookie Spencer Rattler for the QB2 role behind starter Derek Carr, who retired this offseason due to a preponderance of injuries. With a new offensive play caller and head coach in Kellen Moore, Haener now is competing with Rattler and second-round rookie Tyler Shough to be the Saints' QB1. Given his underwhelming production last year, Haener won't have much streaming value for fantasy if he ever gets an opportunity to start in 2025. Read Past Outlooks
Back with NOLA's practice squad
The Saints signed Haener to the practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Haener will return to New Orleans on the practice squad after being let go from the active roster Saturday. Haener would be a candidate to be elevated to the active roster as an emergency quarterback or as a backup if Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shough were to miss time.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
A fourth-round pick in 2023, Haener was suspended the first six games last season and still is awaiting his NFL debut. That could come this season. With Jameis Winston off to Cleveland, Haener is the favorite to back up fellow Fresno State alum Derek Carr in New Orleans. He’ll compete with journeyman Nathan Peterman and rookie fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler. Undersized at 6-1, 200, Haener doesn’t possess elite traits and has only adequate arm strength, but he gets the ball out quickly, showed good anticipation in college and is plenty athletic. Taysom Hill is still around as the gadget guy, but if Carr misses time, Haener likely will take the reins.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Gets first-team reps Wednesday
Haener, who's in a three-way quarterback competition with Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough, took first-team reps Wednesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Kellen Moore had previously stated he'd rotate his three quarterbacks through reps with the different units, and it was Haener's turn with the top offense Wednesday. The third-year pro's most noteworthy play may have been early in 11-on-11 drills, when he connected with Chris Olave down the sideline for a touchdown. While Rattler, who finished last season as the starter, and Shough are considered the frontrunners for the starting job to open the season, Haener is being evaluated as well and did put up the first 39 regular-season pass attempts of his career in 2024.
