2025 Fantasy Outlook
Chubb made it back from ACL, MCL and meniscus tears in September of 2023, playing eight games and 225 snaps beginning in Week 7 of last season. He was nowhere near his usual self, however, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry for the Browns. Chubb's comeback ended in Week 15 due to a broken foot, the recovery from which will be an ongoing concern in a long list of durability woes. The season-ending 2023 injury was preceded in 2015 by MCL, PCL and LCL tears in the same left knee, so Chubb's otherwise freakish athleticism and work ethic have already been tested as much as possible. Now 29, he signed a one-year contract in June with Houston, where he'll compete for backup work behind Joe Mixon. Incumbent backup Dameon Pierce did well with his limited opportunities last year, but Chubb could win the role -- and perhaps even take a chunk out of Mixon's workload -- if he gets back to something like 80 percent of his old self. Inks one-year deal with Texans
Chubb and the Texans officially agreed to a one-year contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's 2023 campaign was cut short by ACL, MCL and meniscus tears in his left knee, and upon his return Week 7 of last season, he topped out at 59 rushing yards among his eight appearances before suffering a fracture in his left foot Week 15, ending the year on injured reserve. Prior to those injuries, he had put together four straight 1,000-yard seasons on the ground for the Browns, but with Joe Mixon entrenched as Houston's top running back for 2025, Chubb likely will be relegated to a complementary role while potentially competing for reps with Dameon Pierce and rookie fourth-rounder Woody Marks, considering Chubb's deal has a base salary of $2.5 million.

Chubb's season-ending knee injury was one of the most upsetting moments of last season, somehow looking even worse than the ACL, MCL and meniscus tears he eventually was diagnosed with. Frankly, it would be a career-ending injury for many lesser backs in their late 20s. Chubb might not be human, however, with incredible athleticism potentially allowing for a faster-than-usual recovery and/or continued productivity even if he loses a step. Chubb tore three ligaments (MCL, PCL, LCL) in the same left knee in 2015 at Georgia, and he came back the next year with 1,130 rushing yards. The injury ended up being little more than a speed bump long term, as evidenced by Chubb's excellent NFL career. With all that said, Chubb is now 28 years old and faces a battle to meet his normal standards in the first year back from injury. Despite his Wolverine-like recovery from the first major knee injury, Chubb dropped to 5.0 YPC for the Bulldogs in 2016 -- a sharp contrast to the 6.8 YPC he averaged across his three other seasons. He accepted a pay cut from Cleveland this offseason, after the team added D'Onta Foreman to a backfield that still has Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong. Reading between the lines, the Browns believe Chubb can complete his recovery and return to a lead role... but they aren't necessarily counting on it. Fantasy managers should probably take the same approach, rather than depending on Chubb to be the lineup fixture he was for the past half-decade.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Future remains murky
Browns general manager Andrew Berry termed a return by Chubb, who finished the 2024 season on injured reserve with a foot injury that has now healed, as "increasingly unlikely" due to the addition of rookies Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the 2025 NFL Draft, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb remains a free agent nearly two months into the new league year, and Berry was as diplomatic as possible about the veteran back in his radio interview Friday with 92.3 The Fan while still making it clear the team is likely moving on. Berry emphasized how much the team likes Judkins and Sampson, while also noting incumbent Jerome Ford is still expected to have a solid role in the team's offense.
