Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
After playing a full season for the first time in 2023, Tagovailoa was again felled by injuries last year, missing four games early in the season with a concussion and the final two weeks with a hip injury. He played well in between, but the Dolphins altered their offense to minimize risk and account for a poor offensive line. Tua’s average target depth dropped by more than two yards, to a mere 5.6, the lowest of any 300-attempt QB since David Carr in 2006 (5.5). Tagovailoa slashed his deep-passing rate nearly in half -- from 9.8 percent in 2023 to a league-low 5.0 last year -- and led the league in WR screen percentage. He got the ball out quicker than any QB, with an average time to throw of 2.42 seconds, making him highly dependent on yards after the catch -- two-thirds of his yardage came from YAC, easily the most in the league. It also made the Dolphins far less explosive (45 plays of at least 20 yards, 31st, after 76 in 2023, 4th) and made De’Von Achane the league leader in receptions, yards and receiving TDs by a running back. The Dolphins return their top skill players, but swapped out TE Jonnu Smith (Steelers) for the formerly retired Darren Waller, and Tyreek Hill is unhappy (not hard to see why) after playing through a wrist injury all last season. Unfortunately, the team did little to improve its offensive line this offseason, making it hard to get excited about the new-scheme Tagovailoa even though he's an accurate passer with excellent weapons. RANKS
Sharp in Week 4 win
Tagovailoa completed 17 of 25 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added three rushes for six yards in the Dolphins' 27-21 win over the Jets on Monday night. He also committed a fumble recovered by Miami.
ANALYSIS
Tagovailoa put together a relatively tame stat line in terms of his yardage, but the 2020 first-round pick generated his third straight two-touchdown-pass tally with a pair of scoring tosses to the debuting Darren Waller. Tagovailoa did lose Tyreek Hill to a gruesome knee injury, however, so he could be challenged to consistently offer above-average fantasy production moving forward without his No. 1 target. On the bright side, Tagovailoa demonstrated encouraging chemistry with Waller in their first game together and still has other speedy playmakers at his disposal, not to mention a favorable Week 5 road matchup against the Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

Tagovailoa played a full season last year for the first time in his four-year career and ended up leading the league in passing yards (4,624) and throwing 29 TD passes. Those stats were built on efficiency rather than volume too. Tagovailoa ranked 16th in attempts per game (32.9), but his 76.8 percent on-target rate (3rd) led to a 69.3 completion percentage (5th) even as he threw 35.0 percent of attempts beyond 10 yards (4th). He averaged 8.3 yards per attempt, second only to Brock Purdy. Tua particularly shines using his strong arm downfield. He led the league in on-target percentage on attempts of 20-plus yards (65.6), completing half of those (2nd) with a league-high 10 touchdowns. With speedsters Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle at his disposal, Tagovailoa should again have plenty of downfield opportunities. The Dolphins added WR Odell Beckham (for whatever he has left) and TE Jonnu Smith, and they still have the league's fastest backfield with Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane (combined 52 catches). Coach Mike McDaniel's innovative and dynamic offense should again put Tua in a strong position, but the QB's lack of rushing suppresses his fantasy value -- his career average is 7.2 rushing yards per game. Without meaningful rushing stats, he'll probably need to push toward 600 pass attempts to reach the top 10 of fantasy quarterbacks. Indeed, last season he finished as QB11 despite leading the league in passing yards.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
New pass catcher at tight end
Tagovailoa will have a new weapon on offense against the Jets on Monday, with tight end Darren Waller cleared to play in his first regular-season game since the 2023 campaign as a member of the Giants, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane will continue to operate as the Dolphins' top options on offense. However, getting a pass-catching, veteran tight end like Waller in the mix should open up the field for Tagovailoa and the rest of Miami's offense. It's worth noting that Tagovailoa and tight end Jonnu Smith -- who now plays for the Steelers -- showed great chemistry in 2024; in the nine games from Week 8 to 16, the duo connected for 55 receptions on 67 targets for 556 yards and five touchdowns.
