2025 Fantasy Outlook
Conklin signed a one-year contract with the Chargers in the offseason after a bittersweet final season with the Jets. After three consecutive seasons with exactly 87 targets dating back to his fourth and final campaign in Minnesota, Conklin dipped to just 72 targets, and his 51 catches and 449 yards were also Conklin’s lowest marks over the past four years. On the other hand, Conklin set a new career high with four touchdown catches, including being on the receiving end of Aaron Rodgers’ 500th career touchdown pass. Playing with Justin Herbert should present an upgrade over Rodgers at this stage of the respective quarterbacks’ careers, but the 30-year-old Conklin will face competition for playing time from Will Dissly, who had a career-high 481 receiving yards for the Chargers in 2024. Conklin has a higher ceiling, having exceeded 550 receiving yards three times, but neither TE is a particularly fearsome red-zone weapon, and the position accounted for only two of Herbert’s 23 touchdown passes last season. Rookie fifth-round pick Oronde Gadsden could also compete for targets at the position. Read Past Outlooks
Productive on two targets
Conklin secured both of his targets for 50 yards during the Chargers' 27-21 win over the Chiefs on Friday night. He also rushed once for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Conklin made the most of his limited opportunities in the receiving game Friday, while top wideouts Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen and Quentin Johnston combined for a total of 26 of 34 possible targets. Conklin also played just 43 percent of offensive snaps, while fellow tight end Will Dissly (targeted once for an 18-yard gain) played 57 percent of snaps. Even in what preliminarily looks like a more pass-friendly offense led by Justin Herbert, Conklin and Dissly likely won't be major factors in the receiving game given Los Angeles' depth at wide receiver. They project to again split reps at tight end versus the Raiders on Monday night in Week 2.

2018
Conklin finished each of the past three seasons with exactly 87 targets, catching 58-to-61 passes for 552-to-621 yards. His 621 yards last season were a career high, yet he failed to find the end zone even once (and has just seven career TDs among 212 catches). The 29-year-old should hit paydirt at least a couple of times this season, presumably benefiting from better quarterback play after catching passes from Zach Wilson for most of the past two seasons. The upgrade from Wilson to Aaron Rodgers, though delayed by a year, seemingly overshadows the possibility of targets being siphoned away by veteran WR signing Mike Williams and/or third-round pick Malachi Corley. The bigger threat might be third-year TE Jeremy Ruckert, who is unlikely to play enough snaps to establish his own fantasy value but might get enough to take a chunk out of Conklin's. While Ruckert didn't do much his first year and a half in the league, he had five straight games with at least 22 snaps and two targets in Weeks 11-15 last year before a Week 16 concussion ended his season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Working behind Dissly
Conklin has worked behind Will Dissly in OTAs and minicamp, according to Spencer Schultz of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
Dissly has retained the starting role, though Schultz believes Conklin could still play a prominent role for his new team. Conklin could still make a push for the top spot on the tight end depth chart in training camp and preseason, but Dissly's familiarity with the offense seems to have given him the early edge in this position battle.
