Rest-of-Season Projections

Cut loose by Milwaukee
The Brewers released Blanco on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The 36-year-old infielder hasn't appeared in the majors since 2017 and was expected to open the season at Triple-A San Antonio had he stuck around in the Milwaukee organization. Blanco played exclusively with the Braves' Triple-A affiliate at Gwinnett in 2019, slashing .262/.364/.443 over 530 plate appearances.

Blanco's tenure as a reserve for the Phillies ended after the 2017 season, and he was on the lookout for a similar role to begin the 2018 campaign. He latched on with the Giants, but was released after failing to crack the big-league roster out of spring training. The Brewers subsequently picked him up on a minor-league deal and kept him at Triple-A Colorado Springs for the duration of the campaign. His numbers in the minors certainly weren't bad (.271/.362/.435 with nine homers and 47 RBI), but he was a 34-year-old playing in an extremely hitter-friendly environment. Blanco's calling card is his defensive versatility, as he has experience at all four infield positions. He will get a look with the Braves during spring training.
