Has contract renewed again
The Dodgers renewed Toles' contract Wednesday, Chuck Schilken of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Toles, 31, hasn't played professional baseball since 2018, but Los Angeles continues to renew his contract every year, presumably to ensure that he's able to keep his health insurance. Toles has battled mental health issues since his last appearance in a Dodgers uniform, which took place Sept. 30, 2018. He's on the team's restricted list, which means that he doesn't occupy a roster spot.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
2017
2015
After a pair of promising short stints in 2016 and 2017, Toles was largely an afterthought last season. He spent most of the year in the minors or on the shelf with a hamstring injury, logging just 32 major-league plate appearances. Toles hit just .233/.281/.300 in those opportunities, though the sample is far too small to draw any real conclusions, and he managed a .306/.345/.461 line with Triple-A Omaha. The Dodgers thinned their outfield depth over the winter by sending Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig to Cincinnati, but the team still has several players ahead of Toles on the depth chart. If he remains in Los Angeles, he'll likely be nothing more than an injury fill-in who can provide capable enough performances when called upon. If he were to find his way to another organization, Toles would have some deep-league appeal thanks to a career .286 batting average and his eight homers in just 249 plate appearances.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Legal trouble in Florida
Toles, who was recently arrested in Florida for trespassing and didn't play at all in 2019 due to personal issues, remains in jail nearly a week later, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
The embattled outfielder's most recent stumble extends a years-long series of concerning incidents. Toles was once the Rays' minor-league player of the year, earning the honor back in 2013. He was out of professional baseball altogether in 2015 after being released for disciplinary reasons, but he since thrived in three minor-league stints in the Dodgers organization while also shining in the 2016 regular season and postseason with Los Angeles. A .300 hitter at six different professional stops, Toles' career nevertheless remains in limbo following the arrest, which stemmed from his refusal to vacate the rear of a Federal Express building behind Key West Airport, where the possibly homeless 28-year-old was found sleeping.
