2024 Fantasy Outlook
Rea hadn't seen significant action in the majors since making 19 starts in 2016, but he caught on with the Brewers last year and was a serviceable swingman with a 4.55 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 110:38 K:BB over 124.2 innings. He started in 22 of his 26 appearances and had decent strikeout and walk rates (21.3 percent and 7.4 percent, respectively) but was hurt by the long ball (1.7 HR/9). Milwaukee opted to re-sign him early in the offseason, and he's likely to be a factor in the starting rotation again in 2024. Rea might not be a reliable fantasy starter but should be a solid streaming option, assuming he's able to replicate his performance, which a 4.39 xERA and 4.30 xFIP indicate is realistic. Rea didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Kansas City, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk across 4.2 innings. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Tuesday's appearance was Rea's shortest of the campaign, failing to reach five innings pitched for the first time this year. While he kept the ball in the park, Rea tied his season high in hits allowed and yielded three extra-base hits. Rea has been hit or miss during his last four starts, allowing four or more runs twice but giving up no runs in his other two outings. He's expected to toe the rubber Monday against the Pirates.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Quick return to majors?
Wade Miley will be placed on the injured list with a lat injury, according to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which could mean that Rea, who was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, makes a quick return to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Rea gave up just one run in 5.2 frames during his season debut April 13 in San Diego, but he's otherwise been unremarkable with a 6.39 ERA across 25.1 innings. The Brewers already have Brandon Woodruff, Aaron Asby and Jason Alexander on the 60-day IL with shoulder injuries, and Miley's absence will further stretch their starting depth. Rea seems likely to re-enter the rotation soon, with Milwaukee also requiring an additional starter to round out the unit.

2018

2016
Rea put together a solid 2020 campaign for the most part, but his ERA for the year was really damaged by two poor outings, especially his last of the season. He surrendered four runs on five hits, including two home runs to the Cubs in just two innings. The right-hander did see his velocity rise a tick during the 2020 season, sitting around 93 mph. He also mixed in his cutter (17.8 percent of his pitches) and curveball (19.1%) effectively. Rea ended up inking a one-year deal with Chicago in December to avoid arbitration, but the club released him in January so that he could pursue opportunities in Japan. If he does end up latching on somewhere overseas, he'll likely have an opportunity to serve as a starter.
