The Red Sox released Perez (shoulder) on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Perez has been on the injured list at Triple-A Worcester all season as he recovered from right rotator cuff surgery. The team had been hoping he would be ready for game action by now, but that wasn't the case and it's uncertain when he might be ready to play. The 35-year-old will look to latch on with another organization once he's healthy.

Perez's stint with the Pirates in 2022 lasted just 21 games before he needed season-ending surgery to repair a torn hamstring. The veteran backstop returned in time for winter ball and then caught on with the Giants on a minor-league pact. San Francisco has promised an open competition at catcher and Perez could even usurp Joey Bart depending on how much of an emphasis they want to place on defense. The 34-year-old's offense has been dreadful outside of a fluky showing with a juiced ball in 2019, though, so the odds are heavily against him being relevant in fantasy even if he does see regular at-bats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Role secure in San Francisco
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaid said Tuesday he believes Perez "represents a pretty good part of the solution" at catcher this season.
ANALYSIS
The veteran has started behind the plate in three of the first four games of the season, and he's gone 2-for-10 with a walk, an RBI and five strikeouts. Perez should continue to see regular playing time but is unlikely to be an daily presence in the lineup, especially with Zaidi noting the catcher isn't "an everyday player at this stage of his career." Joey Bart is on the injured list with a back strain, so Rule 5 draft pick Blake Sabol should split time with Perez for the immediate future. The Giants also signed Gary Sanchez to a minor-league deal last week, and he could be a factor in the majors by the end of April.
