Boyd is hitting a combined .229/.329/.324 in 72 games between Double-A Springfield (23 games) and Triple-A Memphis (49 games).
ANALYSIS
This breaks down to .299/.400/.463 at Springfield but .188/.283/.241 at Memphis. Considered a hot prospect a couple of years ago, Boyd's stock has dropped rapidly, due to his own erratic development as well as the general improvement of the Cardinals farm system. He's no longer considered much of a prospect, although there is still an outside chance he could contribute as a utility guy at some point.

His raw speed and Julio Franco-like skills at second base convinced the Cards to move Boyd to center field. Even assuming he makes the transition--he has work to do--he has to prove he can hit above low-A ball. His 2003 performance wasn't impressive, despite fairly good secondary skills. The heir apparent to Jim Edmonds, but don't hold your breath.

"That's where he has been playing in Palm Beach and he's made a lot of progress. That's where we are going to keep him."
