Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Moncada's tenure with the White Sox ended with a whimper, as he was limited to just 12 games last season because of an adductor strain. Injuries were a common theme for the infielder during his final three years in Chicago, with Moncada averaging just 69 games and 278 plate appearances during that span. Moncada did enter the offseason with a clean bill of health and is somehow still just 29, but the reality is he's been a worthwhile fantasy contributor for just one season in his career and that came in 2019 when offense was booming across the league. He's expected to begin the season as the Angels' primary third baseman after inking a one-year, $5 million contract, but he'll be a gamble for fantasy managers, both in terms of production and availability. Resumes swinging bat
Moncada (thumb) has been able to swing right-handed and field grounders, per MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Moncada landed on the 10-day IL due to a right thumb sprain April 10, so he's already eligible to be activated. It's not clear when the switch hitter will be able to resume swinging left-handed, but he at least appears to be making progress in his recovery. Moncada could return to the Angels before the end of April, but an early-May return is probably more likely.

It's quite possible that Moncada's fantastic 2019 season will wind up being a career outlier. He posted a .315/.367/.548 batting line with 24 home runs and 11 stolen bases over 132 games that year and even garnered one down-ballot vote for American League MVP. In his 1,637 plate appearances since the beginning of the 2020 campaign, Moncada has slashed just .243/.325/.395 with middling power and only six total steals in eight total attempts. The 28-year-old third baseman is locked in for a $24.8 million salary in 2024 and carries a $5 million buyout on his $25 million club option for 2025, so he's probably close to untradeable unless he achieves some kind of massive turnaround in the first half of 2024. He remains an underwhelming fantasy option on a White Sox team that seems a bit directionless at the moment.

CHC, SEA, TOR interested
The Cubs, Mariners and Blue Jays remain in the mix for Moncada, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
All three clubs are theoretical playoff contenders and would probably be asking Moncada to compete for regular at-bats rather than locking him into a starting job. The 29-year-old missed most of the 2024 campaign with an adductor strain and hasn't had a full, productive season since 2021. Moncada has played third base exclusively since 2019 but does have past experience at second base.
