Sets sights on NFL

January 16, 2023
Johnston announced Monday via his personal Instagram account that he will forgo his remaining eligibility at TCU to enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
Johnston will make the jump to the professional ranks after a prolific three-year career in Fort Worth. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound wideout turned in his best season yet as a junior, racking up 60 catches for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns. Johnston projects to be one of the top receivers in his draft class and should intrigue NFL scouts with his blend of size and speed.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2021
It's easy to overlook Johnston's production the last two years due to its modest volume, but when accounting for age and team context Johnston's numbers begin to look highly promising. He led TCU in receiving production both his true freshman and sophomore seasons even despite competing against upperclassmen for targets and missing four games over that span. Johnston has the profile of a player who could get better quickly and without notice, although those previously mentioned upperclassmen wideouts (Taye Barber and Derius Davis) both returned for fifth seasons.
Johnson ended his 2020 campaign with a couple of productive games against Oklahoma State (three catches for 114 yards) and Louisana Tech (five catches for 133 yards and a touchdown) which led to him leading the team with 22 catches for 487 yards and two touchdowns on 44 targets. He showed some versatility in his first collegiate season with a couple of rushing scores as well. While teammates Taye Barber and Derius Davis have more experience, Johnson has a unique skillset which could be just as valuble for quarterback Max Duggan. The TCU offense returns 10 starters and should be much improved in 2021.
