Cut by Bucs
The Buccaneers waived Blankenship on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Blankenship was competing with Chase McLaughlin for the Buccaneers' kicking gig and ultimately came up short in the job battle. The 26-year-old most recently suited up for the Cardinals, with whom he appeared in two games during the 2022 campaign after being cut by the Colts following Week 1.

Blankenship is locked into a heated training camp/preseason competition with Chase McLaughlin entering the midpoint of the exhibition slate. The Georgia product did not kick again last season following a Week 1 release by the Colts, and he owns career 83.9 percent and 93.1 percent success rates on field-goal attempts and extra-point tries, respectively. If Blankenship does win the job battle, he'll be attached to a Buccaneers offense with some solid pass-catching playmakers but questionable quarterback play, a recipe that could lead to plenty of field-goal opportunities.

To compete with McLaughlin
Blankenship, who signed with the Buccaneers on Thursday, will compete with fellow former Colts teammate Chase McLaughlin for Tampa Bay's starting placekicker job this summer, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Blankenship participated in the Buccaneeers' three-day minicamp on a tryout basis this week and apparently performed well enough to earn an extended look in training camp. After posting an 84.3-percent success rate on field-goal attempts and a 94.3-percent figure on extra-point tries with the Colts over his first two seasons, Blankenship lasted just one game with the team in 2022 before being swapped out for McLaughlin, who he beat out for Indianapolis' starting job in 2020.
