Dotchin did not receive a qualifying offer from the Blues and will become a UFA on Friday, Patrick Williams of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dotchin spent all of the 2019-20 campaign with AHL St. Louis, where he had eight points in 37 contests. He's amassed 23 points in 103 games at the NHL level between the Lightning and the Ducks, but Dotchin will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal in 2020-21. He is most likely to serve as organizational depth on the blue line.

2017
Much was expected for this abrasive defender after an impressive showing in 2016-17, but he only managed three goals and 11 points in 48 games in 2017-18 and was a healthy scratch for long stretches. Dotchin's potential remains, but his ceiling is limited to the third pairing. Following his unconditional release by the Lightning for a "material breach," the youngster will be looking for a new club this season.
Dotchin was a revelation last season. He didn't look out of place on the top pairing beside Victor Hedman and he put up 11 helpers in 35 games. Sure, Dotchin got his shot because the Bolts were hurt by injuries, but this 6-foot-3, 210-pound right shot played smart, responsible hockey with a snarl. In fact, Dotchin plays old school, minor-pro style hockey – he hits hard, low and sometimes a little late. That has gotten him into some disciplinary problems (just Google Jake Dotchin hits). he'll be in tough to win a full-time gig given the arrivals of Dan Girardi and Mikhail Sergachev, not to mention the presence of Slater Koekkoek. But Dotchin has proven people wrong at every level. He’s on a one-way deal and his grit provides the Bolts something they sorely lack. Dotchin could deliver multi-categorical production in a couple years, though that could come sooner if someone in the top four goes down with injury. Otherwise, he’s waiver material.
