Vintage performance in win
Tate defeated Julia Avila via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:15 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
ANALYSIS
It came against an opponent that hadn't fought since June 2021, but this was by far Tate's best performance since defeating Holly Holm for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship in March 2016 (!!!!). She landed 4-of-5 takedown attempts, finished with a 127-11 edge in total strikes landed, and was credited with 10:55 worth of control time in a fight which lasted 11:15. In other words, there was only 20 seconds in which Tate wasn't in a dominant position. The dominant effort and finish would go on to earn Tate a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus -- one of 10 post-fight bonuses awarded on the evening. Miesha is now 37 years old and lightyears from title contention despite this strong effort, so the UFC should seriously considering booking a rematch between her and Holm. It almost makes too much sense at this point.

Fighting Julia Avila
Tate will fight Julia Avila during a UFC event on Dec. 2, mmafighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tate was previously slated to take on Mayra Bueno Silva on June 3 but had to call the fight off with a hand injury. However, she appears to be back at full health and will take on Julia Avila in December. Though Tate has lost back-to-back matches, Avila hasn't fought since 2021 after sustaining a knee injury.

No longer fighting Silva
Tate won't fight Mayra Bueno Silva on June 3 at a UFC event like she was initially scheduled to, per MMA Mania.
ANALYSIS
Tate is reportedly dealing with a hand injury, resulting in a July 15 showdown between Silva and Holly Holm. Tate is coming off two straight UFC losses, but the 36 year-old fighter will have to wait to avenge her losses and get back on the winning side of the octagon.

Set to fight in early June
Tate (19-9-0) is scheduled to face Mayra Bueno Silva (10-2-1) in a bantamweight fight at the UFC's June 3 event, Damon Martin and Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com report.
ANALYSIS
Tate will return to the 135-pound division after most recently competing as a flyweight this past summer, when she lost to Lauren Murphy via unanimous decision at the UFC's July 16 event on Long Island. Since upsetting Holly Holm at UFC 196 in March 2016 to claim the bantamweight championship, Tate sports a 1-4 record.

Struggles against Lauren Murphy
Tate lost to Lauren Murphy via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC on ABC 3 on Saturday on Long Island.
ANALYSIS
It's a highly concerning loss for Tate in more ways than one. Going up against a soon-to-be 39-year-old opponent who is tough as nails but offers little in terms of offensive creativity, Tate struggled almost the entire fight. She appeared hesitant and slow on the feet and wasn't able to land a single takedown. Tate has never been much of a striker, and she simply isn't going to be able to win kickboxing matches at this stage of her career. Tate turns 36 years of age in mid August. She has dropped two of three fights since returning from her 4.5 year hiatus last July, and there's little reason to expect a prolonged winning streak moving forward.
